About Us
The Vermont Town and City Management Association is a membership organization that was created in 1977 to “increase the knowledge and ability of local government managers, and to promote increased professional management of Vermont municipalities”.
Eligible members are persons appointed Town or City Manager, Chief Administrator, Assistant Town or City Manager or Administrative Assistant to a Town or City Manager, or who hold a similar position in any municipality or municipal district in the State of Vermont. There are categories of membership for full, lifetime, honorary and student members as well.
VTCMA offers a spring and fall conference for members. Conferences offer educational and networking opportunities to members whose positions are frequently somewhat isolated from both the boards for whom they work and residents who see them in a public role. VTCMA offers a stipend to the annual ICMA conference to a VTCMA member who might not otherwise be able to attend..
Annual awards recognize the efforts of members in two areas, Outstanding Achievement and Distinguished Service. Awards are made at the fall conference.
ICMA
International City Management Association
VTCMA is affiliated with the International City Management Association (ICMA) in Washington D.C. Together, VTCMA and ICMA provide to members a senior advisor, a member of VTCMA who is retired from a career in municipal management in Vermont. The purpose of the senior advisor program, partially sponsored by ICMA, is to provide managers with someone who understands their issues, both from a professional and personal perspective, and who can offer advice and support, particularly in times of crisis or transition.
